A tragic collision involving a Toyota Hiace passenger bus has resulted in the death of three individuals and left several others injured.
The accident occurred at Gomoa Mprumam Junction on the Winneba-Apam Highway in the Central Region, involving a bus with registration number CR 805-24.
According to reports, the vehicle was speeding when a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. The bus then veered off the road and flipped multiple times.
Footage from the scene reveals personal belongings scattered across the road, alongside the bodies of two men and a woman. Pieces of the bus’s interior were also strewn about, with some bystanders trying to recover what they could.
Apam District Fire Service Commander, DO2 Anthony Kwesi Rhule, confirmed the vehicle was traveling at high speed. “A passenger mentioned that the bus was speeding, and if not for this, the accident might have been avoided,” he stated.
The bus was carrying fifteen passengers, including three children and twelve adults. The deceased woman was traveling with her children, who, along with other injured passengers, were rushed to the Winneba Trauma and Municipal Hospital.
DO2 Rhule urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and obey traffic regulations to prevent such accidents. “Drivers must reduce their speed on this stretch from Winneba Junction to Apam towards Cape Coast and follow traffic rules,” he advised.
The deceased have been taken to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital mortuary, while some of the injured have been transferred to the Winneba Municipal Hospital for further care.
