Steven Bergwijn has made it clear that he no longer wishes to play under Ronald Koeman after being criticized by the Netherlands coach.

Koeman, who recently stated he would not select Bergwijn following his £17.7m move from Ajax to Al-Ittihad, believes the forward’s primary motivation is financial rather than sporting.

Bergwijn, however, has refuted Koeman’s claims, stating that he has not spoken to the coach about his move to Saudi Arabia.

The former Tottenham player expressed his disappointment with Koeman’s public criticism, stating that the coach could have contacted him directly to discuss the matter.

Koeman, in response to Bergwijn’s comments, maintained that his stance remains unchanged.

He reiterated that the move to Saudi Arabia indicates a lack of sporting ambition but declined to engage in further discussion.

Bergwijn, who made his international debut under Koeman in 2018, has previously expressed dissatisfaction with the coach’s treatment of other players, including Brian Brobbey.

He criticized Koeman’s public comments about Brobbey’s technical ability, stating that such behavior undermines his credibility as a national coach.
