- Engagement aims to address welfare issues and resolve dispute.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has directed three committees to engage with locals of Ada Songor and investors from Electrochem Ghana Limited to resolve the impasse over salt mining activities.
The committees tasked with this responsibility are the Land and Natural Resources, Employment and Labour Relations, and the Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Committees.
Speaker Bagbin emphasized Parliament’s commitment to the people of Ada, urging the committees to honor this responsibility by directly engaging with the community.
He stressed the importance of protecting the investor’s interests while prioritizing the people’s concerns.
The Speaker instructed the committees to visit the area, engage with the people, and create an avenue for a peaceful settlement of the dispute.
This directive comes after Parliament approved Electrochem Ghana Limited’s mining operation in the area.
House Majority Whip, Frank Annor-Dompreh, revealed that the investors had made concessions on the land, demonstrating their willingness to engage with the indigenes.
He acknowledged the concerns of Members of Parliament from the area regarding welfare issues and access to resources.
Annor-Dompreh noted that Electrochem had made some land available to citizens, addressing some of the concerns.
The engagement between the committees, locals, and investors aims to find a peaceful resolution to the long-standing dispute over salt mining activities in Ada Songor.
