Addo Cautious Ahead of Ghana’s Clash with Angola

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead for his team as they face Angola in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana will host Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, looking to extend their unbeaten record against the Palancras Negras in recent encounters.

The two teams have faced each other twice in the past two years, with Ghana securing a narrow 1-0 victory in Kumasi being the only win between them.

Addo is aware of the threat posed by Angola and has emphasized the importance of a strong performance to set the tone for their qualification campaign. “I’m convinced that we can beat them, but it won’t be easy,” he said at a press conference on Wednesday. “And also we had some injuries, but I think the squad is ready.”

The Black Stars will be without several key players due to injuries, including Kamaldeen Sulemana, Gideon Mensah, and Alexander Djiku.

However, Addo remains optimistic about the quality and depth of his squad.

The match between Ghana and Angola is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 PM GMT on Thursday.
