A 20-year-old mechanic, Akwasi Agyeman, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Asante Bekwai Circuit Court for attacking and sexually assaulting a pregnant student during the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The incident occurred on August 25 in Sanso, a community within the Bekwai Municipality. Agyeman forcibly entered the room of his 20-year-old victim, who was eight months pregnant and studying at Bekwai S.D.A Senior High School.
He stole valuables, including an iPhone 7 and an itel phone, valued at a total of GH₵ 2,400, before assaulting her.
The court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Apietu, heard that Agyeman threatened the victim with a knife to rob her.
His actions prompted nearby community members to intervene, leading to his capture. Police Detective Chief Inspector Eric Twum reported that the stolen items and the weapon were recovered from Agyeman upon his arrest.
Agyeman admitted to the charges of robbery and rape, leading to his sentencing after a thorough investigation and court proceedings.
