Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, former Majority Leader and MP for Suame, has issued a strong warning about the risks associated with delaying the approval of Ghana’s lithium agreement.
During a parliamentary session, he emphasized the limited availability of lithium resources and urged lawmakers to act quickly to avoid the potential loss of these valuable assets.
At a stakeholder forum in Parliament on September 3, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu highlighted the urgency of the agreement, stressing the need for prompt legislative action.
His appeal comes at a time when the global demand for lithium, a key material for electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy storage, is surging.
He cautioned that the opportunity to leverage this resource could soon be lost, warning that without decisive action, Ghana’s lithium assets might become stranded. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu acknowledged the need for cautious handling but emphasized the critical importance of not delaying the decision.
