Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has revealed that Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Paraguay will be his final appearance for his country.
The 37-year-old, known for his fiery passion and exceptional goal-scoring ability, fought back tears as he made the announcement.
Suarez, who has been a cornerstone of the Uruguayan national team for over a decade, leaves behind a remarkable legacy.
With 69 goals in 142 appearances, he holds the record for the most goals scored for Uruguay.
“I’ve given this a lot of thought and believe this is the right time,” said Suarez, expressing his desire to enjoy his final match with the national team without any regrets.
Suarez’s international career was marked by both triumphs and controversies.
He was sent off in the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals for a crucial handball save, but Uruguay ultimately prevailed in the penalty shootout.
He also led Uruguay to victory in the 2011 Copa America and appeared in multiple World Cups and Copa America tournaments.
Despite facing challenges, including a lengthy ban for biting an opponent, Suarez remained a dedicated and passionate player for his country.
He expressed gratitude for the experiences and memories he has made throughout his international career.
