Russia launched a major offensive against Ukraine early Monday morning, unleashing a combination of drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles on Kyiv and several other cities across the country. Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv’s city military administration, provided details on the effectiveness of the city’s air defenses. He confirmed that Ukrainian forces managed to intercept and destroy more than 10 cruise missiles, approximately 10 ballistic missiles, and a drone that were aimed at Kyiv and its surrounding suburbs.
In addition to Kyiv, Ukrainian forces also reported successful interceptions in other regions. They claimed to have destroyed 22 out of 35 missiles and 20 out of 23 drones across various locations, including Kharkiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia. This substantial defensive effort helped to mitigate the impact of the Russian attacks.
Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the Kharkiv region, confirmed that an early morning strike had hit the Industrialnyi district of Kharkiv. The extent of the damage and any casualties resulting from this particular attack were still being assessed.
