The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Bureau of Integrated Rural Development (BIRD) has solidified its partnership with the Ministry for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development (MLGRD) to bolster rural development efforts in Ghana.
Following a successful collaboration on the Rural Development Policy, BIRD recently paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry to discuss further strategies and initiatives.
Led by Professor Awunyo-Vitor, Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Dr. Monica Addison, Director of BIRD, the team highlighted the urgent need to address the challenges facing the rural economy.
“The state of the rural economy is a critical indicator of overall rural development,” stated Professor Awunyo-Vitor. “We are committed to contributing to the development of a comprehensive policy that addresses these issues and improves the lives of rural communities.”
Dr. Addison also emphasized the importance of capacity building, suggesting a tailored short course to equip stakeholders with the necessary skills.
“By working together, we can ensure that the Rural Development Policy effectively addresses the unique needs of rural Ghana,” she added.
Minister Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, assuring the BIRD team of his full support. “This partnership is a significant step towards achieving our goals for rural development,” he said. “We will work together to ensure that the key points discussed are implemented effectively.”
The collaboration between BIRD and MLGRD promises to have a lasting impact on the lives of rural Ghanaians, fostering economic growth and improving quality of life.
