An Accra Circuit Court has remanded two police constables, General Lance Corporals Philmon Agbevem and Peter Kwame Badagbor, for allegedly attacking an Okada rider and stealing GH¢3,700.
The two officers, stationed at the Accra Central District Police Command, have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.
According to the prosecution, the accused forced the complainant, Emmanuel Amertodor, to withdraw money from his mobile phone to another phone registered in the name of Hope Alorvordzi.
The complainant, an Okada rider, reported the incident to the Police at Cantonments and later to the Criminal Investigations Department, Headquarters, for further investigation.
On July 21, 2024, the two off-duty police officers, dressed in their uniforms and armed with a rifle, trailed the motorcyclists and stopped them at the Christ the King traffic light in front of the Jubilee House.
The prosecution stated that the accused subjected the complainant to severe beatings, handcuffed him, and forcefully transferred GH¢3,700 from his phone to another phone number.
The accused also took GH¢120 from the complainant before releasing him.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to arresting the complainant on July 21, 2024, but denied robbing him of the stated amount.
The two officers, represented by their counsel, Andy Vortia, have denied all charges and are due to appear before the court on September 10, 2024.
