  • 102 appearances for Valencia since 2021
  • Brazilian goalkeeper backs the signing

Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a transfer deal valued at up to £29 million. The arrangement includes a base fee of £25 million with an additional £4 million contingent on performance-related add-ons. The deal is subject to the completion of a work permit and international clearance.

Despite the agreement, Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia for the remainder of the current season. He is expected to join Liverpool at the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign, allowing him to continue his development in Spain before making the move to Merseyside.

Liverpool’s current first-choice goalkeeper is Brazil international Alisson Becker, who has been a key player for the Reds. Additionally, new manager Arne Slot has Republic of Ireland’s Caoimhin Kelleher available this season. Mamardashvili’s arrival will add depth to the squad’s goalkeeping options for the future.

Mamardashvili recently represented Georgia in Euro 2024, featuring in all four of their matches before their elimination by Spain in the last 16. His performances on the international stage have bolstered his reputation and contributed to Liverpool’s interest.

Since joining Valencia in 2021, Mamardashvili has made 102 appearances for the club. He has started both of Valencia’s fixtures this season, though they have faced defeats against Barcelona and Celta Vigo.

Liverpool decided to secure Mamardashvili now due to increasing interest from other clubs, which might have made him unavailable in the next 12 to 24 months. By acting promptly, Liverpool aims to ensure they have the talented goalkeeper as part of their squad.

Alisson Becker, who has two years left on his contract with an option for an additional year, is aware of and supportive of Mamardashvili’s forthcoming arrival. The Brazilian sees the new signing as a valuable addition to Liverpool’s goalkeeping depth and a key investment in the club’s future.
