The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has responded to concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the electoral register, dismissing them as “needless.”
The NDC’s Director of Elections, Dr. Omane Boamah, had accused the Electoral Commission of tampering with the register following the voter exhibition exercise.
Dr. Boamah claimed that their review revealed issues such as missing names and unauthorized voter transfers, prompting a call for a forensic audit and a parliamentary probe.
However, in an interview with Citi News, NPP’s Director of Elections, Evans Nimako, responded that the concerns raised by the NDC are precisely the reason for conducting the voter exhibition exercise.
Nimako explained that the exercise is designed to allow stakeholders to identify and correct any errors on the register before it is finalized.
He stated that the exhibition phase is meant to enable stakeholders to assist the Electoral Commission in creating an accurate register.
Nimako emphasized that if individuals find errors in their details during the exhibition, they can request corrections from the exhibition officer.
He expressed surprise at the NDC’s concerns, stating that they are “crying needlessly” during this phase of the process.
Nimako reiterated that the exhibition phase is meant to ensure the accuracy of the register, and any errors can be corrected before the final register is compiled.
The NPP’s response aims to alleviate concerns and reassure stakeholders that the electoral process is transparent and accurate.
