Black Stars’ Salis Samed Linked to Sunderland for Season-Long Loan

According to French sports media outlet L’Equipe, Black Stars midfielder Salis Samed is being targeted by EFL Championship club AFC Sunderland for a potential season-long loan deal.

Samed, who impressed during the 2021 season, has seen his role diminish at French Ligue 1 side RC Lens due to a combination of poor form and injuries.

Following the opening match of the 2024-2025 season, Lens head coach William Still announced that Samed, along with other players, had been relegated to the reserve team.

In the 2023-2024 season, Samed made 35 appearances across all competitions, though many of these were as a substitute.

Now, Sunderland has emerged as a key destination for Samed. If the move goes through, he could follow in the footsteps of former Black Stars players John Mensah and Sulley Muntari who have previously played in the EFL Championship.

This potential loan deal highlights Sunderland’s interest in bolstering their squad and Samed’s desire for regular first-team football.

Sunderland top the Championship standings after securing a 4-0 victory over Sheffield United and a 1-0 win against Burnley, as they prepare for their upcoming league match against Portsmouth.
