- John Dumelo campaigns door-to-door in Ayawaso West Wuogon
- He continues communal services, but reduces social media posting
Ghanaian actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has provided insights into his campaign strategy, highlighting his involvement in various community services as part of his efforts to connect with voters in his constituency.
In a recent interview with Pulse.com.gh, Dumelo, who is running for Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket, elaborated on his active engagement in grassroots activities. Despite his busy schedule, Dumelo has continued to participate in communal services, such as organizing clean-up exercises and providing free transportation for students.
“I still do clean-up exercises; I mean, I still provide an absolutely free bus for Legon students or the university students or community students in Ayawaso. It’s just that because we do it so much, I don’t post so much, but on the grounds, the people know that we are definitely working,” Dumelo stated.
He also addressed the public’s perception of his involvement in traditional activities, saying, “If you are asking if I am not braiding hair and pounding fufu, I still do that, but I don’t post.” He justified these actions by explaining that such activities often meet the expectations and needs of the local populace.
Dumelo, who previously ran for office in the 2020 elections against Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and lost by approximately 2,000 votes, is optimistic about his chances in the upcoming December 7th general elections.
He reaffirmed his commitment to his campaign and emphasized the importance of understanding and responding to the needs of the community. “Sometimes when you go to the people, that is what they want you to do and you can’t say you won’t do it,” Dumelo explained.
