Ministry of Housing Requests Supplemental GH¢200m for Dam Resettlement

The Minister of Works and Housing has requested additional funding to support the Akosombo Dam spillage resettlement programme’s first phase. The government initially allocated GH¢200 million to the Ministry for the resettlement of those affected by the dam’s spillage.

However, the Chief Director of the sector, Rev. Stephen Yaw Osei, has called for an additional GH¢200 million to cover consultancy fees and land compensation. Rev. Osei emphasized that the total projected cost for the project is GH¢600 million.

To complete the resettlement process within a year, the Ministry requires the full amount of GH¢600 million. If the project is extended to two or three years, additional funding of GH¢200 million per year will be necessary.

Rev. Osei stressed that the Ministry has prioritized the affected homes and is seeking the necessary funds to fast-track the resettlement process. The Ministry has projected a total cost of GH¢600 million to complete the project.

Rev. Osei explained that the Ministry needs the full amount to be released for the resettlement process to be completed within a year. The Ministry is seeking additional funds to ensure the timely resettlement of those affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
