Raducanu Faces Kenin in US Open Return

Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, will kick off her campaign at this year’s tournament against fellow Grand Slam winner Sofia Kenin.

The British teenager’s return to Flushing Meadows comes after a two-year absence due to injury. Raducanu will be aiming to recapture the magic she displayed in 2021, when she became the first British woman in 44 years to win a major singles title.

Her opening match against Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion, promises to be a challenging test. The American has a strong record at the US Open and will be eager to make a deep run.

Other notable matches in the women’s draw include Katie Boulter, the British number one, facing an unconfirmed qualifier, and Harriet Dart taking on Chloe Paquet of France.

In the men’s draw, Jack Draper will face Zhang Zhizhen of China, with a potential third-round clash against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Dan Evans, the only other British man to gain direct entry, will face Karen Khachanov of Russia.

Jan Choinski secured his place in the main draw with a victory over Maxime Cressy, while Sonay Kartal, Lily Miyazaki, and Billy Harris fell in the final round of qualifying.

The US Open will take place from August 26th to September 8th.
