Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Running Mate for the 2024 elections, has urged traditional leaders to cast their votes in the upcoming December elections.
In her appeal, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated, “I ask for your support and guidance to ensure a successful journey. We recognize the importance of your backing in this endeavor.”
She made this appeal during a visit to the Tema Traditional Council as part of her campaign tour in Greater Accra.
Addressing land issues raised by the council, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang assured that former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, will honor his commitment to address the concerns of the Tema community and ensure they benefit from industries on their lands.
She stated, “As John Dramani Mahama has promised, a commission will be established to investigate these issues. We need to address these concerns because some of the current land issues are troubling. Lands are non-renewable resources, and it is essential to protect them for future generations.”
Regarding peace, she emphasized the importance of adhering to established processes and policies to ensure that all Ghanaians enjoy lasting peace.
Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Member of Parliament for Tema East and NDC parliamentary candidate for the area, expressed gratitude to the people of Tema and their traditional leaders for warmly welcoming the party’s Running Mate.
He encouraged women to actively campaign for the NDC, highlighting that the party’s goal of electing Ghana’s first female Vice President would inspire girls and women to aspire to the highest levels of politics.
Nii Armarh Soumponu II, the Tema Stool Secretary and Shipi, welcomed the NDC and recalled how their lands were taken for industrial use. He called for the return of unused lands and noted that the repurposing of their farmlands for industries has led to unemployment among local residents, who are now pressing for job opportunities.
