The Volta Regional Coordinating Council has officially launched the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the region’s road network, fostering economic growth, and creating employment opportunities.
The programme is a collaborative effort between the Government of Ghana and key stakeholders, including J. A. Plant Pool Ghana Limited, a member of the Jospong Group of Companies, the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation & Rural Development, and the Ministry of Roads and Transport.
The primary objective of DRIP is to enhance accessibility, reduce travel times, and increase economic activities for citizens by improving the region’s road network. According to the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the success of DRIP relies heavily on the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including Municipal and District Assemblies, security services, and the general public.
Dr. Letsa urged all major partners to play their roles diligently to ensure the programme’s objectives are met, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility. He implored the stakeholders to make efficient use of the opportunity to develop their districts and better the lives of the citizenry.
The Regional Minister also called on the Presiding Members and Assembly Members to support the programme and ensure the uniform development of their Electoral Areas. Dr. Letsa stressed the importance of involving the Minerals Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency in the implementation of the programme to ensure that the natural environment is not degraded.
The programme will provide essential road construction equipment to assemblies, including bulldozers, backhoes, and tipper trucks, to facilitate efficient execution. The launch of DRIP marks a significant milestone in the region’s development journey, paving the way for transformative development and a brighter future for its citizens.
