- Flavour's journey from streets to stardom highlighted in recent interview
Nigerian singer Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour N’abania, has shared a revealing account of his journey to stardom, including a humbling experience with music duo PSquare.
In a recent interview on the In My Opinion podcast, Flavour recounted his early days, saying, “Things started changing when I started seeing some artists. When I left the band, I went into the streets. That was when the game became hard.”
He recalled a specific incident where he was asked to leave the stage during a performance for PSquare at City Centre in Enugu. “I remember one day PSquare came with a temptation album… The promoters brought them to the spot, and I was performing. Immediately PSquare came in, the manager said, ‘Hello, stop that thing.'”
Flavour described how he was replaced by PSquare, who performed to a screaming crowd. “When they left, the manager asked me to come back. I was cold.”
This experience led Flavour to realize the importance of creating his own unique sound. “So I was like, ‘It’s the same music these people are doing. I’ve been with you, and you never shouted like this.'”
He continued, “I decided to change from a music man to an artiste, and that was the difficult part of it… I could play, I could sing, but to create your own sound, where are you going to start from? The best way to go about it was to start afresh.”
