Courtroom Chaos: Thieves Clash with Police Over Missing Goats

A dramatic scene unfolded at the Accra Circuit Court as two of the three accused in a goat theft case faced off against the police.

Emmanuel Agyei, also known as “Obama,” a fisherman, and David Agyei, a borehole driller, both admitted to stealing goats from Teshie Camp Two on August 8, 2024, but denied involvement in the theft of nine foreign-breed goats valued at $13,500.

The goats in question belong to Seidu Yakubu, the complainant, who reported their theft on August 11, 2024.

Emmanuel Agyei argued in court that the goats he stole were not the ones identified by the complainant, claiming he had never seen the foreign-breed goats in question. David Agyei similarly maintained that the goats they stole were of an African breed, not the imported ones.

After considering their statements, the court convicted Emmanuel and David but postponed sentencing until September 2, 2024. The third accused, Baba Musah, known as Baba Talatu, pleaded not guilty to charges of dishonestly receiving stolen goods and was remanded into custody.

Prosecutor Superintendent Augustine Yirenkyi reported that the police are searching for three additional suspects—Nat, Aapah, and Boola Gee—who remain at large.

The case came to light after a tip-off led to the arrest of the accused and the recovery of livestock from their possession.

During their interrogations, Emmanuel and David revealed information that led the police to Boola Gee’s residence, where several stolen animals were found.

The complainant, Seidu Yakubu, later identified two of the recovered goats as his own.
