English midfielder Conor Gallagher has completed a move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of £33 million.
The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Spanish La Liga club.
Gallagher, a Chelsea academy graduate, made 90 appearances for the Blues, scoring 10 goals. With his contract set to expire next summer, Chelsea decided to sell him now to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
“To everyone at Chelsea, thank you for making my dreams come true,” Gallagher wrote on Instagram. “It’s been an absolute honor every time I put on the shirt, and it was a dream come true to captain the team on many occasions. I loved every moment. These memories will last forever. I appreciate all the love and support from the fans.”
In a potential swap deal, Atletico forward Joao Felix, also 24, is set to join Chelsea. The Portuguese international spent the 2023 season on loan at Stamford Bridge, scoring four goals in 20 appearances. Chelsea has reportedly agreed to a fee for Felix’s transfer.
