The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched its 2024 manifesto, outlining plans to support the creative industry with special travel privileges and other initiatives.
At the launch event held at the Ghana Secondary Technical School in Takoradi on August 18, 2024, the NPP highlighted the need for a Travel Protocol Service (TPS) to facilitate international performances and shows for artistes, performers, and creatives.
The manifesto states: “We will establish a Travel Protocol Service (TPS) for the creative community, to enable artistes, performers, and other creatives, honour international performances and shows.”
The NPP also reiterated promises made by its Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during his lecture at the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) on February 7, 2024. These include:
- Using tax incentives to encourage private sector investments in sports, tourism, and creative arts facilities
- Implementing an e-visa policy for international visitors to Ghana
- Rolling out a visa-free policy for nationals of African and Caribbean countries visiting Ghana
- Establishing a streaming and digital management platform for Ghanaian content developers in the creative arts
The party’s 2020 manifesto had also promised to construct a convention and exhibition centre, set up the Creative Arts Fund, and build new theatres in Takoradi and Tamale. Additionally, the NPP had planned to provide recording studios for the music industry and build a digital platform for artistes to reach the global market.
