A violent confrontation between the youths of Wenchi Zongo and Nkonsia in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region has resulted in the death of one individual and the destruction of five motorbikes.

The victim, 21-year-old Alhassan Mohammed, died from his injuries after being taken to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital. Two other people sustained injuries in the incident, with one, Ayuuba Adamu, currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

The conflict reportedly began on Saturday, August 17, during an event in Nkonsia called “Agado Night.” Adamu explained that his phone was stolen by an unidentified individual during the event. When he pursued the thief to a nearby house, he was attacked by a group of people who beat him with sticks until he could no longer defend himself.

Adamu recounted, “I was urinating when someone took my phone. I saw him and chased him, but he ran into a house. When I followed him, he called for help, and a group of people started beating me. I was too weak to fight back, so I fled to the roadside to find my friends.”

Enraged by the assault and theft, Adamu’s friends followed him to the house where the confrontation escalated. During this clash, Alhassan Mohammed was fatally stabbed, and another man who tried to intervene sustained a stab wound to his armpit. Additionally, the motorbikes belonging to the group from Wenchi Zongo were set on fire amidst the turmoil.

The incident has been reported to the Wenchi Police, with Adamu cooperating with the authorities at the scene. He has expressed hope that those responsible will be caught and brought to justice.

Anthony, the Senior Enrolled Nurse at the Emergency and Accident Unit of Wenchi Methodist Hospital, confirmed that three victims were admitted to the hospital around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 18. The Wenchi Police have not yet released an official statement on the matter.
