Bawumia Pledges to Safeguard and Enhance Free SHS and TVET Programs

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, has committed to protecting and improving the Free Senior High School (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiatives.
During the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, Bawumia highlighted the importance of these educational programs for the country’s progress and the future of its youth.
He assured that his administration would focus on ensuring that every Ghanaian child has access to quality education, regardless of their financial situation.
Bawumia described the Free SHS and TVET programs as foundational elements of Ghana’s educational system, pledging continued investment and enhancement to provide greater opportunities for young people.
The Vice President outlined several forthcoming initiatives to strengthen these programs, including increased funding, upgraded infrastructure, and the introduction of new curricula tailored to the modern job market. He also shared plans to broaden access to TVET programs, enabling more students to gain vocational training and industry-relevant skills.
“We will protect and enhance the Free SHS/TVET programs, which are truly transforming lives and improving outcomes for millions,” Bawumia stated. He highlighted that enrolment has surged by 83% since the inception of Free SHS/TVET, and emphasized the importance of this initiative in fostering a well-educated, prosperous society.
Bawumia also promised to recruit more teachers and improve their working conditions to support the educational sector’s growth.
