Hands Off Elections, Agbodza Tells Bryan Acheampong

The Minority Chief Whip, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has issued a stern warning to Abetifi lawmaker Bryan Acheampong, cautioning him against attempting any sinister moves in the upcoming 2024 general elections. Agbodza, who is also the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, made these comments while addressing a gathering in Adaklu, Volta Region, alongside the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama.

He praised Mahama for his previous tenure as commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, highlighting his ability to bring honor and respect to the office. In contrast, Agbodza criticized the current commander-in-chief, suggesting a loss of control and allowing miscreants within the government to threaten the country’s peace and security.

He specifically referenced Bryan Acheampong’s comments, where he threatened that the “sea would burn” if the NPP didn’t win the elections, implying a willingness to rig the elections. Agbodza assured the crowd that any attempts by Acheampong or others to use force or manipulate the elections would be met with resistance and ultimately fail.

He reminded Acheampong of his previous defeat in a hostile takeover of SSNIT hotels and warned him against attempting to threaten Ghanaians or undermine the electoral process. Agbodza emphasized that the NDC would win the elections, and President Akufo-Addo would have to hand over power to John Mahama, stressing that the NPP had no legitimate claim to hold onto power.

He recalled the 2020 elections, where eight Ghanaians were allegedly murdered, and warned security personnel and others against attempting to orchestrate similar violence in the Volta Region, promising self-defense and consequences for any perpetrators. Agbodza’s comments were in response to Bryan Acheampong’s earlier statement, where he boasted about the NPP’s ability to win elections and claimed they would “do whatever it takes” to secure victory.
