“NDC Will Set Up a Creative Arts Fund to Support Industry Players” – Kafui Danku

Ghanaian actress Kafui Danku has announced plans by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to establish a Creative Arts Fund if they win the upcoming elections. Danku’s call for support comes as part of her endorsement of NDC flagbearer John Mahama.

Speaking at the NDC Youth manifesto launch on Monday at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Kafui Danku urged her colleagues and the public to back Mahama in the December 7 elections to rejuvenate the creative industry.

“A Creative Arts Fund will be instituted to offer sustainable financial support to start-ups and existing creative enterprises. The upcoming elections are an opportunity for creative professionals to choose a government that cares, a government that would invest in their development,” Danku said.

She further highlighted the NDC’s plans to establish a world-class filming studio aimed at upgrading content to meet global standards. “The NDC government plans to empower young artistes and facilitate the export of culture and artistic growth and services. John Mahama would also set up a world-class studio where we can film quality content to match up with global content,” she added.

The current administration under President Akufo-Addo had previously pledged to establish a similar fund and build theatres in Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale. However, nearly eight years into their term, these promises have yet to be fulfilled.
