US Gymnast Jordan Chiles Stripped of Bronze Medal in Controversial Ruling

In a stunning turn of events, American gymnast Jordan Chiles has been stripped of the bronze medal she won in Monday’s women’s floor final.

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) confirmed that Romania’s Ana Barbosu has been elevated from fourth to third place following a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The Romanian Olympic Committee appealed a challenge lodged by the US team regarding Chiles’ score.

The CAS ruled that the US team’s inquiry, submitted after the one-minute time limit for such challenges, should be dismissed.

As a result, Chiles’ original score was reinstated, dropping her to fifth place overall.

USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee expressed their deep disappointment with the decision, condemning the “consistent, utterly baseless and extremely hurtful attacks” Chiles has endured on social media throughout the appeal process.

The 23-year-old, who contributed to the US team’s gold medal victory, took to Instagram to share her emotional distress, posting four broken heart emojis.

In a subsequent message, Chiles announced her temporary withdrawal from social media to prioritize her mental health.
