NDC Announces Free University Tuition for Level 100s, Extends Free SHS to Private Schools

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled major educational reforms as part of their campaign platform.
Key among these initiatives is the pledge to eliminate tuition fees for all first-year university students and to extend the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy to private schools.
Festus Mwingsong Akyuuro, a Public Relations consultant and member of the NDC Youth Manifesto team, revealed these commitments during the party’s campaign launch at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
Akyuuro criticized the current administration’s handling of secondary education, emphasizing that promises made without adequate funding and completion of E-block schools are inadequate.
Former President John Mahama, leading the NDC campaign, has also pledged to revamp Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) by integrating cutting-edge facilities such as fabrication laboratories with 3D printers.
As part of the NDC’s “No Fees Stress” initiative, Akyuuro announced that first-year university students will be exempt from paying academic fees, addressing past issues where students with excellent results struggled with tuition costs.
Additionally, the NDC plans to enhance the Student Loan Trust Plus scheme to support students who face financial difficulties after their first year, ensuring continued access to education.
