Former First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama emphasized the importance of peace and unity among the Bono people at the 2024 Beko Bono festival in Techiman. She expressed gratitude to the traditional leaders and organizers for inviting her to the event and congratulated them on a successful celebration.
As a native of the Bono East region, Mrs. Mahama celebrated the rich history and entrepreneurial spirit of the Bono people, highlighting their unique qualities such as humility, acceptance, hard work, and bravery. She acknowledged the region’s immense potential, citing its numerous tourist attractions as valuable opportunities for stimulating development and economic growth across the three Bono regions.
Mrs. Mahama referred to the creation of the three new regions from the former Brong Ahafo Region and appealed to the people to maintain their unity and commitment to their communities. She emphasized that development will only come when they remain united and embrace change as a catalyst for advancing the region’s growth.
Mrs. Mahama stressed that the Bono people should recognize themselves as one, regardless of their geographical location within the region. Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Nana Agyemang Badu II, President of the Bono House of Chiefs, outlined an ambitious plan to raise funds to establish factories in Bono areas, creating job opportunities for the youth.
He announced a personal contribution of seven hundred thousand Ghana cedis to the festival organizers on behalf of the Dormaa community to fund a significant project within the Techiman traditional area. The festival was attended by notable figures, including Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Bono East Regional Minister Kwasi Adu-Gyan, current and former ministers of state, Members of Parliament, and Municipal and District Chief Executives.
