Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has issued a public apology after a video surfaced online appearing to show him inhaling laughing gas.
The 27-year-old posted the footage on social media on Saturday, a day after featuring in Spurs’ pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich.
The possession of nitrous oxide for recreational use became a criminal offence in the UK last year, carrying a potential two-year prison sentence.
Bissouma expressed regret for his actions, stating, “I want to apologise for these videos.
This was a severe lack of judgment,” said Bissouma. “I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.”
Bissouma, who joined Spurs from Brighton for £30m in 2022, had played for 45 minutes in Spurs’ friendly defeat against Bayern Munich earlier on Saturday afternoon. “We are looking into the events,” a Tottenham spokesperson said. “This will be dealt with as an internal matter.” Tottenham’s 2024-25 Premier League campaign begins with a trip to newly-promoted Leicester City on 19 August.
