Tensions within the Ashanti Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) reached a boiling point on August 11. Disgruntled executives, including Francis Adomako, Raphael Patrick Sarfo, Patrick Acheampong, and the Second Vice Chairwoman, boycotted the regional campaign team launch.

The event, held at Rattray Park in Kumasi, saw notable party figures in attendance, including Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Akosua Frema Opare. The absent executives had expressed grievances about feeling marginalized by Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

They alleged a lack of prior consultation in regional decisions, leading to their boycott. Despite attempts at intervention by National Executives, the underlying issues persist.

Chairman Wontumi addressed the ceremony, urging appointed committees to execute their duties diligently. Concerns were raised by party members regarding the ramifications of internal discord within the party.

Delegates from various constituencies expressed apprehension, fearing the party’s division may lead to defeat in the upcoming election. Others urged the General Secretary to revisit the situation to foster unity within the party.
