Four Killed in Violent Land Clash in Northern Region

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, violence erupted in Zogbei, Mion district, over a protracted land dispute between the Dagombas and Konkombas, leading to four fatalities and numerous injuries.

The conflict intensified into gunfire and destruction, including the burning of several motorbikes.

The violence has severely disrupted transportation along the key route between Tamale and Yendi, causing significant travel difficulties.

Zogbei’s strategic position on the Yendi-Tamale Road has heightened the crisis, with security forces deployed to manage the situation. Despite their presence, the area remains tense and residents are apprehensive.

In an interview with Alhassan Abubakari, the District Chief Executive Officer for Mion Constituency, reported that while calm has been partially restored, the situation was severely unstable earlier in the day.

“Calm has been restored now, but earlier, traveling from Tamale to Yendi was extremely challenging due to the ongoing land dispute between the Konkombas and the Nanumbas,” he confirmed.
