Some NPP Members Secretly Hope for Party’s Defeat in 2024 – Mahama
- Mahama argues that some NPP members are dissatisfied with their party's leadership
- He claims that this dissatisfaction is motivating some within the NPP to back his candidacy
- Mahama criticized the current NPP administration
John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has suggested that certain supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are covertly wishing for their party to lose in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Mahama believes that these NPP members are disillusioned by what they see as the party being controlled by a small, elite group, which they feel is undermining the interests of the broader population.
He claims that this dissatisfaction is driving some within the NPP to support his candidacy as a means to facilitate a party reorganization.
Addressing his supporters during a visit to the Upper East region over the weekend, Mahama remarked, “In Ghana, it’s not the NPP as a whole but a small faction that has taken over everything. Many of my NPP friends have expressed to me that they want the NDC to succeed in removing their party from power.”
He further criticized the current NPP administration, contrasting it with previous leadership, and noted that the party has been overtaken by a different group than during former President Kufuor’s tenure. Mahama believes that this factionalism has led some within the NPP to desire a defeat so the party can regroup and reorganize from opposition.
Comparing Ghana’s economic struggles with those of other African nations, Mahama described Ghana’s situation as “worse off,” pointing out the widespread protests in countries like Nigeria and Kenya as evidence of the severe challenges facing Ghana.
