Cardi B has filed for primary custody of her children with rapper Offset, including their unborn baby, as part of their ongoing divorce proceedings, according to court records. The Grammy-winning artist is also requesting child support from Offset, who is known for his successful solo career and his role in the trap group Migos.
The details of Cardi B’s legal requests were revealed in divorce documents filed on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in New Jersey Superior Court in Bergen County. The filings indicate that the couple, who have been experiencing “irreconcilable differences” for the past six months, have reached a point where reconciliation is no longer feasible.
Cardi B, 31, and Offset, 32, share two children: 6-year-old daughter Kulture and 2-year-old son Wave. Cardi B also announced in an Instagram post on Thursday that she is expecting their third child. The court documents confirm that Offset is the father of the unborn baby.
In response to the filing, a representative for Cardi B stated, “This is not based on any one particular incident; it has been a long time coming and is amicable.”
Cardi B and Offset, whose birth names are Belcalis Almanzar and Kiari Cephus, respectively, were secretly married on September 20, 2017, in Atlanta. They announced their engagement a month later. Cardi B initially gained fame as a cast member on VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: New York” before achieving a successful music career with her Grammy-winning album “Invasion of Privacy” and hit singles like “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It,” featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin.
The couple’s relationship has been publicly scrutinized, and in 2020, Cardi B had previously filed for divorce in Georgia, citing that her marriage was “irretrievably broken.” However, she later withdrew the filing.
The details of the current court filings were first reported by TMZ.
