Clement Kofi Asare, who contested the reappointment of Professor Rita Akosua Dickson as Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has appealed the Kumasi High Court’s recent decision.
The High Court dismissed Asare’s case on July 30, ruling that the suit lacked merit. In his appeal to the Court of Appeal, Asare contends that the trial judge erred in dismissing the case, calling the verdict a “travesty of justice.”
He argues that the reappointment process was flawed and requests a reconsideration of the decision.
It remains unclear whether the defendants in this new appeal have been formally notified. The appeal arises as Professor Dickson officially begins her second term on August 1, which coincides with her birthday.
Reports indicate that she conducted a significant prayer session seeking divine intervention amidst the ongoing controversy.
In response to the situation, the Ashanti Youth Association is organizing discussions with stakeholders. This follows a petition from the KNUST branch of the Asante Students Union. Tweneboah Kodua, Secretary of the Association, stated that they plan to engage with the university’s governing council and administration to clarify the issue and meet with the parties involved in the legal challenge.
“KNUST is a cherished institution for Asanteman, and with the Asantehene serving as the chancellor, it is crucial to handle this matter delicately, especially in the king’s absence,” Kodua emphasized.
