  • Peter failed to apologize to Paul during a recent family meeting, prompting Paul to speak out publicly

Nigerian musician Paul Okoye, renowned as part of the duo P-Square, recently revealed that his twin brother and former bandmate, Peter Okoye, was responsible for his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in December 2023. This disclosure came during an interview with City 105.5FM in Nigeria.

Paul Okoye recounted the circumstances leading to his detention, which he attributed to a petition filed against him by his brother concerning his lifestyle. During the interrogation, Paul faced severe threats, including warnings that he could be imprisoned for up to 20 years.

The EFCC, according to Paul, presented detailed printouts of his bank account statements, scrutinizing various transactions. They inquired about certain payments deposited into his account that Peter did not receive, despite the fact that they were still performing together as P-Square and should have shared earnings.

Paul clarified that the funds in question, dating back to 2006/2007, were scrutinized by the EFCC, particularly a deposit of approximately $200,000. He explained that the disparity in their finances stemmed from differing personal financial habits—while Peter tends to spend on luxury items, Paul prefers to save, leading to a higher account balance on his part.

During the interrogation, Paul asserted that he explained these differences to EFCC officials. He also noted that if he had been involved in fraudulent activities, the extent of the EFCC’s investigation would have likely uncovered it.

Following a thorough investigation, the EFCC cleared Paul Okoye of any wrongdoing. Despite his exoneration, he revealed that Peter Okoye did not extend an apology during a recent family meeting held about a month ago.

Paul Okoye disclosed that he is addressing these issues publicly to safeguard his professional reputation and ensure that his business associations are not adversely affected by the allegations.
