Brigadier General Zibri Bawah Ayorrogo, Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA-CD), has condemned the recent altercation at the Kulungugu Border Post. He described the incident as “unfortunate” and emphasized that the officers responsible will face disciplinary action.
Ayorrogo stressed that security institutions are professional and disciplined, and personnel are expected to behave accordingly. He noted that taking the law into one’s own hands or behaving unprofessionally will not be tolerated.
The incident, which involved officers from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and the Customs Division of the GRA, is currently under investigation. A joint committee has been established to investigate the matter and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.
Ayorrogo commended his officers for their professionalism in the line of duty, but warned against acts that could intimidate traders and lead to tax evasion. He expressed concern about the country’s porous borders, which he identified as a major loophole for revenue loss.
To address this, the GRA-CD has introduced scanners at revenue collection points to scan goods entering or leaving the country. Ayorrogo called for cooperation from traders and the public to improve revenue mobilization for the Authority.
