Appeals Court Upholds Gag Order In Trump Criminal Case
- Court has upheld a gag order against Trump
- He is prohibited from commenting publicly on prosecutors
- Trump faces up to four years in prison and fines
A New York state appeals court has upheld a gag order in the criminal case against Donald Trump, prohibiting him from commenting publicly on individual prosecutors and others involved in the case until his sentencing on September 18.
Trump’s lawyers argued that the gag order violates his First Amendment rights, but the court ruled that it is necessary to protect individuals from threats and harassment.
The case stems from Trump’s conviction in May on charges related to hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Trump faces up to four years in prison and fines, and has vowed to appeal his conviction after sentencing. A recent poll shows Trump in a tight race with Vice President Kamala Harris, who is expected to become the Democratic nominee.
Trump’s lawyers have also renewed their request for the judge to recuse himself, citing his daughter’s work as a Democratic political consultant and her relationship with Harris.
