Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill Advocates Are Driven by Personal Gain – Akpaloo
- Akpaloo claims that the advocates of the anti-LGBTQI+ bill are financially motivated
- Akpaloo says the bill is an unnecessary distraction that adds no significant value to Ghana
- Akpaloo accuses anti-LGBTQI+ activists of using reverse psychology
Percival Kofi Akpaloo, presidential candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana, has alleged that those backing the anti-LGBTQI+ bill are motivated by personal, rather than national, interests.
He asserts that financial incentives are a primary driving force behind the bill’s sponsorship.
According to Akpaloo, individuals who publicly oppose LGBTQI+ activities and support the bill have been financially compensated by their sponsors.
He made these statements during an interview, where he was asked whether he would sign the anti-LGBTQI+ bill into law if elected president.
Akpaloo dismissed the bill as having little value to the country and argued that the controversy surrounding it only serves to draw more attention to the LGBTQI+ community.
He criticized the bill as a distraction from more pressing issues, such as job creation for unemployed youth.
“What benefit would I gain from signing the anti-LGBTQI+ law?” Akpaloo questioned. “This issue does not concern Ghanaians in a meaningful way. It’s not a productive concern for our country. The controversy itself only serves to highlight the issue further.”
He suggested that opposition to LGBTQI+ activities is driven by personal interests and is not a genuine reflection of national concerns. Akpaloo accused anti-LGBTQI+ activists of using reverse psychology to indirectly promote the very activities they claim to oppose.
“This is a case of reverse psychology,” he claimed. “These activists appear to reject LGBTQI+ activities publicly, but in reality, they are promoting them for their own gain. Their opposition is a facade. I believe these individuals are pursuing personal interests under the guise of moral outrage.”
