Former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, has strongly advised Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, against appealing the Court of Appeal’s ruling that acquitted and discharged Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson. The MP for Tamale South warned that the AG risks further embarrassment if he attempts to appeal the Court of Appeals’ decision.
The Court of Appeal had cleared Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson of any wrongdoing and overturned the trial Court’s order for him to present his defense in the ambulance case. Haruna Iddrisu celebrated the Minority Leader’s victory in Parliament, suggesting that the Attorney General should accept the situation and move on.
He stated that the AG should swallow his pride and not pursue further litigation on the matter. According to Haruna Iddrisu, the AG’s decision to appeal would be unwise and would lead to further disgrace.
He emphasized that the matter lacked legal merit and that the AG should focus on trying cases that are legally sound. Haruna Iddrisu’s comments were made in response to reports that the AG was considering appealing the Court of Appeal’s ruling.
The ambulance case has been a long-standing controversy, and the Court of Appeal’s decision was seen as a major victory for Dr. Ato Forson and the Minority Leader. By advising the AG against appealing, Haruna Iddrisu is cautioning him against prolonging a legal battle that may ultimately end in further defeat.
