Don’t Compare Your ‘Useless’ NPP Govt To Nkrumah – Mahama Replies NAPO
- Mahama directly criticized NAPO's statement about Kwame Nkrumah
- Mahama labeled the current administration as 'useless'
- Mahama underscored that nearly two million youth in Ghana are unemployed and idle at home
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has responded sharply to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who claimed that President Akufo-Addo’s administration surpasses all others in Ghanaian history, including Kwame Nkrumah’s.
Speaking at the NDC’s campaign launch on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in Tamale, Mahama criticized NAPO’s assertion, stating that it undermines Nkrumah’s monumental contributions to Ghana’s development.
Mahama emphasized that a government responsible for leaving over two million Ghanaian youth unemployed and without access to education cannot be considered exemplary.
He labeled the Akufo-Addo government as ‘useless’ and cited rising unemployment statistics as evidence of its failures.
“The statistics show us that nearly two million of our youth are unemployed and idle at home. How can such a government compare itself to Kwame Nkrumah’s administration?” Mahama questioned.
NAPO had earlier sparked controversy during his unveiling as NPP’s vice-presidential candidate on June 9, 2024, when he claimed Akufo-Addo’s presidency outstrips Nkrumah’s in terms of national development.
He later apologized amidst public outcry, clarifying that he did not intend to demean Nkrumah’s legacy.
