Former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.
In a joint statement, they praised Harris’s “vision, character, and strength” and vowed to do everything they can to elect her.
The endorsement comes after days of speculation over whether Obama would support Harris, who has already secured the majority of Democratic delegates. Obama had previously praised President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the race but stopped short of endorsing Harris at the time.
The Obamas’ statement highlighted Harris’s impressive record as California’s attorney general, US senator, and vice president.
They emphasized that Harris has more than just a strong resume, but also the vision and character required to lead the country during a critical moment.
The endorsement was accompanied by a heartwarming video of the Obamas calling Harris to pledge their support. Harris was visibly moved, saying “Oh my goodness, Michelle, Barack, this means so much to me.”
With the Obamas’ endorsement, Harris is now poised to become the official Democratic nominee at the party convention in August. The Obamas’ support is expected to boost Harris’s campaign and increase her chances of winning the presidency.
