Hopeson Adorye, Director of Special Duties for the Movement for Change, has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, attributing Ghana’s economic challenges to the influence of the president’s close associates.

In an interview, Adorye expressed disappointment with the country’s current state, suggesting that certain family members of the president who were involved in governance have significantly contributed to the nation’s difficulties.

He noted that despite Akufo-Addo’s initial promise to transform Ghana, he allowed himself to be misled by these relatives, leading to poor decision-making and governance issues.

“Many people are disappointed with the government’s performance, so we need to focus on leadership that can change this narrative,” Adorye remarked.

While acknowledging his previous affiliation with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adorye admitted that his confidence in Akufo-Addo’s leadership was misplaced due to the influence wielded by specific family members.

Adorye singled out individuals like former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Presidential Secretary Asante Bediatuo, and presidential cousin Gabby Otchere-Darko as key figures within Akufo-Addo’s inner circle who he believes have obstructed progress and pursued personal interests.

He accused these individuals of undermining efforts and cited examples such as disputes over payments involving businessman Paa Kwesi Nduom.

“Akufo-Addo had the resolve to transform Ghana, but he allowed his family members to mislead him,” Adorye asserted. “Their actions have led to the negative perception of family and friends’ involvement in governance.”
