Tony Elumelu Pledges Support For African Peace Fund

Tony Elumelu, the Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), has underscored the critical role of peace and stability in Africa’s development.

Speaking at the African Union’s high-level meetings in Accra, Elumelu emphasized the importance of mobilizing resources for the Africa Peace Fund.

He argued that preventing conflicts is more effective than addressing their consequences. Elumelu drew parallels between the goals of the Africa Peace Fund and the Tony Elumelu Foundation, which empowers African youth. By investing in young people, the Foundation contributes to a more stable and prosperous continent.

Elumelu pledged UBA’s commitment to supporting the Africa Peace Fund alongside other companies under his umbrella, including TEF, Transcorp Group, and Heirs Holdings.

The high-level meetings also saw Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo call for increased empowerment of women and youth, highlighting their crucial roles in economic growth and development. He advocated for a continent-wide mobile telephony interoperability system to boost the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The event brought together African leaders to discuss strategies for sustainable development and peace on the continent.
