President Akufo-Addo has emphasized the need for greater transparency and accountability in the judiciary, stressing that public trust is crucial for the effective functioning of Ghana’s democracy. Speaking at a ceremony at the Jubilee House, the President administered the Oath of Allegiance, the Judicial Oath, and the Oath of Secrecy to 16 new justices of the Court of Appeal.

President Akufo-Addo charged the judges to dispense justice without fear or favor, affection or ill-will, emphasizing the importance of impartiality in the administration of justice. The President noted that the judiciary must be free from external influence or interference, whether political, economic, or social, to ensure that justice is administered impartially.

He emphasized that the protection of citizens’ rights and the fulfillment of judges’ oaths to act without fear or favor are essential for maintaining public trust in the judiciary. President Akufo-Addo stressed that transparency and accountability are critical for deepening public trust in the justice system, and it is incumbent upon the judiciary to ensure that its processes are open and transparent.

The President also highlighted the need for judges to be held to the highest standard of conduct, emphasizing that this is essential for maintaining public trust and confidence in the judiciary. In addition to emphasizing transparency and accountability, President Akufo-Addo also called for innovative solutions to address the backlog of cases in the courts.

He noted that justice delayed is justice denied, and it is imperative to find efficient and effective ways to expedite the resolution of cases and ensure that justice is delivered in a timely manner. The President suggested that this could be achieved through efficient case management, the adoption of new technologies, and the streamlining of judicial processes to ensure that justice is delivered promptly and fairly.
