Kunle Afolayan Set to Shoot Netflix Series “Aníkúlápó” in Ghana

Acclaimed African filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has announced plans to film parts of his upcoming Netflix series, Aníkúlápó, in Ghana. The news gained momentum on Tuesday, July 23, when Afolayan shared photos on social media documenting his location-scouting efforts in the country.

Location scouting is a critical step in pre-production, involving the identification and evaluation of potential filming sites to ensure they align with the creative vision and logistical needs of the production.

Ghana is actively inviting international filmmakers to utilize its stunning landscapes and top-notch facilities, aiming to showcase its natural beauty and cultural heritage, create employment opportunities, and boost its tourism industry.

The National Film Authority of Ghana is thrilled to collaborate with Afolayan, a prominent figure in African cinema, to film scenes of Aníkúlápó in Ghana. CEO Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Ghana is calling on the world to come and shoot in Ghana and capture the very beautiful sceneries and facilities Ghana has in their movies.”

Aníkúlápó is a four-part series and sequel to the 2022 Netflix original film of the same name. The story follows Saro, a traditional textile weaver, who becomes entangled in a romantic affair with Queen Arolake.
