Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he cannot guarantee that goalkeeper Ederson will remain at the club beyond this summer. The Brazilian has been the subject of strong interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Despite naming Ederson as his first-choice keeper at the end of last season, Guardiola opted for Stefan Ortega in the first leg of City’s Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.
Speaking after the club’s pre-season defeat to Celtic, Guardiola expressed his desire to keep Ederson but acknowledged the situation was out of his hands. “I’d like him to stay, but it depends on other clubs,” he said.
Meanwhile, the future of midfielder Kalvin Phillips also appears uncertain. After a disappointing loan spell at West Ham, Guardiola hinted that a departure, possibly on loan again, could be on the cards.
The manager emphasized that Phillips’ early substitution in the Celtic game was precautionary due to a recent injury.
