- Domelevo proposes advisory board model similar to Sierra Leone
Former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo has advocated for the abolition of the Audit Service Board, arguing that it compromises the independence of the Auditor-General by controlling personnel appointments.
Speaking at the 2024 Domelevo Accountability Lectures in Accra, Domelevo expressed his view that the board’s existence contradicts the constitutional provision ensuring the Auditor-General operates without external influence.
“In my considered opinion, based on my experiences, the board is unnecessary for maintaining an independent institution,” Domelevo remarked.
He highlighted discrepancies between Ghana’s governance structure and that of Sierra Leone, where the Audit Service Act establishes an advisory board to support the Auditor-General without controlling staff appointments.
Domelevo’s remarks underscored ongoing debates about institutional autonomy and accountability within Ghana’s auditing framework.
