Ghana’s Ministry of Sports has issued a statement clarifying their position on the recent visa scandal involving a team claiming to represent the country’s Paralympics committee.
The Ministry acknowledges the incident as “unfortunate” but emphasizes it does not reflect the “dedication and integrity” of Ghana’s legitimate sports community.
They highlight the achievements of Ghanaian athletes and officials in bringing honor to the nation through their hard work and commitment.
The Ministry clarifies they were unaware of this alleged Paralympic team’s participation in the marathon.
This statement comes after reports emerged regarding a group of individuals who obtained visas under the pretense of being Ghana’s Paralympic team.
The group reportedly absconded after their arrival in Norway and are facing accusations of impersonation. The President of Ghana’s Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, has also denied any involvement, stating his signature was forged on a letter used to secure visas for this unauthorized group.
The incident has Ghanaian authorities concerned about the potential damage this could cause for future Ghanaian teams seeking travel visas. Investigations are ongoing.
