Real Madrid Veteran Midfielder Luka Modric Extends Contract

Luka Modric, captain of Real Madrid, has secured a one-year contract extension with the La Liga giants. The 38-year-old midfielder has been a key figure for the club since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, accumulating an impressive trophy haul of 26, including six Champions League titles and four Spanish league titles.

Modric, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, has made a staggering 534 appearances for Real Madrid, contributing 39 goals. Despite playing 46 games across all competitions last season, his starting appearances decreased to 23.

The Croatian international also featured in all three group stage matches for Croatia at Euro 2024, though his team exited after finishing third in their group.

Modric’s experience will be invaluable for manager Carlo Ancelotti, especially with the upcoming season marking his 13th year at the helm of Real Madrid.

The club has already bolstered their squad with the high-profile signing of French striker Kylian Mbappé from Paris Saint-Germain, officially unveiled on July 16th. Additionally, teenager Endrick has been brought in from Brazilian club Palmeiras to further strengthen the 15-time European champions.
